 Coral Cottages are the best
We arrived in Corozal town in northern Belize Jan 7/17 for a two weeks stay at the Coral Cottages.
We were met by our charming host who showed us our cozy little cottage with everything you could  want  or need. Many stores around to shop for food, plenty of restaurants, and the Chetumal Bay close by for    swimming. Lovely grounds and a security guard to watch at night, there are two cottages within the  compound twins of each other. Corozal is not for everyone, dirt roads and no swinging night life and no shopping. However the border of Mexico is about 7 miles away and Ambergris Caye is just a short flight away                                           for shopping, snorkeling etc. I would go back to the Coral Cottages, loved it.

Many thanks!!!
Stewart and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to stay at your cottage, it was everything we needed for our month stay. The cottage is everything as advertised, clean and well maintained. The yard was well groomed and a pleasure to relax In. The hosts live near by and were quick to respond to any issue that came up in a efficient manner. The staff, Crystal and Nathaniel are a delight to speak with and always willing to lend a helping hand. Just adding to a great and memorable experience. Warmest Regards, from the chilly north Stewart and Vera.

Coral Cottages were well kept and the grounds were excellent. Iain was a gracious host we enjoyed our few visits with him very much. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Lilly as she was visiting her father who was ill. The Cottages were perfect for the two of us and a great place from which to investigate Corozal. We were only a short five minute walk to the water and a short walk into town. They provided two bikes which allowed us the opportunity to explore outside of town. Taxi service was good and reasonably priced – we would recommend Menzies Transport Service, they were excellent. Shopping for groceries, restaurants were withing walking distance and the people were wonderful and of course, the weather was certainly better than Ohio in mid-January to mid-February. It was a very enjoyable stay. Belize isn’t Hawaii. It is a third world country but we found the people very pleasant and friendly and met several expats from the U.S. and Canada.

What a stroke of fortune I discovered Corozal Cottages for my stay for month of March in Corozal. I was there to learn all I could about the town and its people. Lilly and Iain my gracious hosts were so helpful in initially introducing me to some of the neighbors, shop keepers and restaurants, as well as answer questions when needed. The cottage was so well equipped with wide screen TV with many channels, wi-fi, and a kitchen conducive to doing some home cooking.
Being an intrepid walker, I was easily able to walk from one end of town to the other. And to the market as well as to restaurants to meet friends. It was so relaxing to sit in the garden, day or evening, with the lovely palm trees, flowers and birds. The weekly laundry was a convenient service and the caretaker was always available if needed to help with special chores. I am hoping to return soon to experience once again Lilly and Iain’s wonderful hospitality and highly recommend anyone coming to Corozal do the same. You are in for a treat!

You cannot get better value for your money.
When I viewed the photos and saw the price, I had my doubts. I was  pleasantly surprised to see that the property more than lived up to my expectations. My house/cottage was clean, furnished well and was a comfortable size. The grounds were perfect for relaxing especially in the cooler evenings. The grocery stores were a few hundred yards away. You couldn’t ask for better hosts. They were professional in my dealings with them and were very helpful with any of my questions about preferred restaurants and my request to borrow their bike to view the local ruins. You should be aware that the streets are poorly sign posted so ensure that your hosts tell you of the local landmarks to guide you.

Our first experience in Belize was met with such a warm welcome. Lilly, her Husband and little Chico (dog) will greet you as if you are family. The cottages are very clean, well stocked, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Nata keeps the grounds like a 5 star resort. Great location, 5 min walk to the bay as well as many restaurants and grocery stores. Speaking of restaurants our favorite place for dinner was Blues, the food and atmosphere is wonderful!!
Everyone we met locals and expats alike were very friendly.
We will definitely stay here again,                                                                     highly recommend.

Lauren and I have been back to the insanity of the “real world” only a short time but, already, we miss the charm and relaxing ambiance of Corozal!!!
We wanted to drop you this short note to express our sincerest thanks for your kind and gracious hospitality … and for everything you did to help make our trip to Corozal a delightfully special experience.  Your property is, without question, the most beautiful area we saw anywhere in Corozal … perhaps anywhere in Belize … and the cottage was perfect to suit our vacation needs. The friendly, relaxing atmosphere you provide to travelers is indescribable and we particularly appreciate the special amenities you provided us … the cell phone, the umbrella, the resource materials, the delicious breakfast burritos upon our arrival, the efficient laundry service, sending Nathaniel to find us during our late-night walk. These extra amenities were certainly unexpected, but greatly appreciated, and are the kinds of things that make you the perfect hostess.
We’re already talking about returning to Corozal sometime next year and hope to see you again then!!!
Again, please accept our sincerest thanks for everything you did to make our vacation time in Corozal especially memorable!!!
I hope you will pass along our very best wishes to your husband, to Nathaniel, … and to Mini!!!

By March of 2014 I had decided to spend a week in Corozal in late May of that year. Coral Cottages was being offered for the price I was looking for and with pictures that honestly looked too good to be true! After reading the descriptions and the reviews of past guests, I made my decision and selected Coral Cottages! After my weeklong stay, I am writing to tell all how happy I am with my experience. My hostess and her husband have created the most beautiful of a garden spot in this intimate and tranquil setting on 8th Avenue near the heart of Corozal. The serenity of this place is complimented by the formidable security she provides to the grounds as well as the ideal location that completely eliminates the need for a rental car unless you want to see more of the country of Belize! Two identical cottages, beautifully decorated, perfectly appointed and fully supplied with everything one needs to simply “move in” and begin enjoying your stay make you feel immediately welcome! Named, Orchid and Hummingbird, I was lodged in Hummingbird and loved every minute of my stay. Air conditioning was quite adequate, kitchen features were far more than adequate, cable TV, fast and reliable Wi-Fi all included along with comfortable furniture made for home style living that was hard to leave. The large shower, adequate storage, plenty of hot water and quick and easy access to local neighborhood stores, shops and restaurants made for an easy way to feel this was “home away from home”! The free bicycle I was provided with allowed me to explore all of Corozal and then some! But, walking to the waterfront, the heart of town, and to explore the entire area was enjoyable, safe feeling and a welcoming way to enjoy true Caribbean living! My hostess made checking in and checking out as easy as anyone could ask for. She regularly inquired as to my needs and answered my every query with promptness and courtesy. There is NO comparison to “renting a room” to enjoying the home-feel of living in your own roomy and beautiful “Coral Cottage”. If you are fortunate enough to be able to secure one of her cottage accommodations for a week or longer, you will find it very hard to leave, as was my case! I WILL be back!

Our first stay in Belize was made even more wonderful thanks to our gracious hosts! Unfortunately, we were unable to meet Iain, who was away on business, but upon our arrival Lilly made sure our comfort was priority; introducing us to a host of friendly local faces and showing us the local spots for grocery shopping and sundries. Their recommendations of restaurants and things to do and see are spot on! All the services they referred us to were professional, dependable and reasonably priced! The Orchid Cottage is exactly as it is shown in the pictures and even more welcoming in person. It is cozy and well-appointed giving us all the comforts of home. The property is stunning, the grounds beautiful and well-manicured, and tended by the always smiling and cheery, Nathaniel. Minnie, the most adorable pup ever is always happy to come hang out and jump in your lap. Lilly and Iain have put much thought and consideration into the comforts of their guests. The location of the property is unbeatable – an easy stroll to the Bay, minutes to good restaurants, and to the market and downtown area. We always felt safe whether within the walls and locked gates of the property or walking around town. We especially enjoyed the food, drinks and conversation with locals at Jam Rock and Blue’s. It was an unforgettable trip and we hope someday to return to this beautiful country and her diverse culture. If you plan to stay in Corozal, Coral Cottages is the best – the hospitality we experienced is unmatched. Hands down – a five star location. This lovely cottage is exactly as shown on this site. With well maintained gardens, like-new cottage, safe gated area and very friendly people all around. Groceries are around the corner, good restaurants within 5 min walk along the Bay with cooling breezes. Enjoyed meeting our cottage neighbor Sue, Nat the grounds keeper and dear little Mini with her happy wagging tail. Reliable tours and transportation with Menzies Transfer company enhanced our distant travels to Lamanai river cruise and ruin excursion, Ambergris Caye (for water sports) and transportation to and from the airport. … THANK YOU Lilly and Iain, we so enjoyed our stay in your charming Orchid Cottage. We always felt very safe with your locked gates and most comfortable with the clean and well set up cottage. Coming from such cold temperatures and having your very quiet and efficient air conditioning helped us to acclimatize to the Corozal heat (the sea breezes also very welcoming as natures natural AC). We especially enjoyed our walks along the Bay going to Copper Horse for breakfast, Jam Rock to chat with the expats while enjoying Belikin Belizean beer, and The Blues Rest for the best pizza cooked in an outdoor pizza oven while enjoying views of the Bay. Such a beautiful and diverse country Belize is and Orchid Cottage was a perfect home base to set out from. If Corozal is your destination then Coral Cottages is your place to stay. I stayed at the Cottage (Hummingbird) for seven ( 7 ) months. It was comfortable and relaxing everything you need in your home away from home. Loved the shower, it was huge. The best thing besides the beautiful garden and secure feeling when staying at the cottage is that you can walk everywhere from there. Immigration office, fruit and vegetable market, bus station and wonderful eateries all around.

We had a wonderful stay! The property is just as it is described and then some. Our hosts were attentive and very personable. We were really made to feel at home. Our only regret was that we were only staying for a very short time. We found the people of Corozal to be helpful and friendly. We walked to town right after dropping our bags at the cottage. There was no need for a car and we enjoyed walking daily throughout the area. The travel from Belize City Airport was easy. We chose to travel on the local bus vs. using the recommended car service. The only issue we ran into was not having the address (my fault), but we were fine using a cab driver. He actually drove us around and we found our destination in no time. That cost us $10 Belize…. and it was a nice adventure. Our driver informed us that most don’t even know the street names (very interesting indeed)…. SMILE! Lilly and Ian are wonderful! They will answer all of your questions in a timely manner and they are gracious hosts. We would definitely return! Understand that we are not your average travellers and tend to venture from the beaten path, so keep that in mind! If you are like minded…… this is the place! Thanks Ian and Lilly! When I first decided to visit Belize I found this listing and contacted the owner. The owner replied promptly with further info plus answered all my questions about the cottage and Corozal. She also sent me many more pictures to give me a good feel for the area. As a result, I booked a month at the cottage. When I arrived at the cottage I was welcomed and shown to my lodgings. I was very pleased that they were exactly as represented on the website. The yard had lots of palm trees and multi-coloured bougainvillea streaming over the fences. The inside was clean and tastefully decorated. The owner took me on a walk around the town and showed me where anything I might need would be available. The owners even bought lunch for me one day so I could sample a typical Corozal take-out meal. The great part for me was that I could walk to everything!! I was alone for most of the time with my husband joining me for the last 10 days. I ate in most of the time taking advantage of all the wonderful fruit and vegetables from the market. When my husband arrived we did eat out a few times and always had good food and service. I always felt safe in my little cottage within the walled property. I especially appreciated the fact that the owners lived on the property (adjacent lot). I had just spent 5 months in condos in Mexico before arriving in Belize and nothing was as represented in their advertisements. One condo in particular had many problems and the owners do not live in Mexico so it was very difficult to resolve problems. I look forward to returning to Belize and Coral Cottages in the future!! I miss the little hot meat pies available just down the street in the mornings and my companions Caye and the girls!!!! This was our first trip to Belize (a country we’ve had on our bucket list for some time). We were looking for a place to spend a month lounging around in the sun, reading and experiencing some of the many adventures available to Belize visitors. Corozal Town was the perfect “lounging in the sun” place and, with the delightful help of Lily and Iain, we immediately felt at home in this quiet, culturally-diverse town. Corozal Town is also a perfect place to launch many sight-seeing trips: San Pedro and Caye Caulker, cave tubing, zip-lining and, of course, Mayan ruins. The cottages and gated environment were comfortable and beautifully decorated, providing all the comforts of home. We highly recommend it! The cabins are charming, cool and clean with well-maintained grounds and a great starting point for bicycle tours on bikes furnished by our hosts. This was my second stay here in Corozal at Coral cottages. It looks just like the pictures in the advertisement. As before, the cottage was immaculate and all appliances were still like new. Iain and Lilly take very good care of the cottage and its grounds. Because they live on the property as well, they are outside every day making sure the grounds are clean and cushions and towels are on the lounge chairs. This creates such an inviting atmosphere that you want to lounge all day with your e-reader and your favourite beverage. But there is more to do. Take your bike to the market for fresh fruits and veggies.(Eight bananas for fifty cents Cdn.) Go to Art in the Park to see and buy beautiful treasures by local artists. Visit a local pub for a cold Belikin and conversations with the friendly locals. Lilly recommended at trip to the local zoo where I saw animals and birds I didn’t even know existed. Because they have lived in Corozal for a number of years, Lilly and Iain can recommend good events that are both entertaining and educational. My hosts are so gracious. They make me feel that I’m coming home. In fact, I’m going back there next year (2014) for the third year in a row. That’s how good my recommendation can be. We just finished a month long stay at this lovely cottage in Corozal and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The cottage itself had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. It is exactly like the pictures. The outdoor gardens are amazing and we enjoyed breakfast each morning outside, under the palm trees. The location is extremely handy – we loved walking to the market each day to purchase fresh papayas, bananas, tomatoes, all of which were really reasonably priced (cheap by Canadian prices). Our hosts, Lilly and Ian were the ideal hosts – very helpful in answering any questions we had about tours, restaurants and provided us with bicycles to do some touring around the area. There are many good places to eat in the town and, again, it is very reasonable to eat out which made the idea of cooking our own meals unattractive. Lastly we really enjoyed going to the waterfront every day and going for a swim. The water is very safe and warm and we spent a lot of time there cooling off. anyone looking for a place to wind down and relax, come here.. My wife & I love Corozal Belize! We booked the Coral Cottages with Lilly. Lilly provided quick email responses to all our questions She has provided photos of what to expect. The photos are not the same experience as being there, however they helped on giving you an idea of what to look forward to. Lilly and Iain were very professional and very friendly. They directed us to the do’s and don’ts (all suggestions of course) of what to expect and where to go and of the local culture etc. They’re place is very well maintained and comfortable. Miss Lilly also provided a notebook guide to use during your stay on where the best restaurants are located along with maps of the cottage location for easy walking/biking travel of Corozal. I recently retired from the U. S. Army and wanted to treat myself to a vacation. As a woman traveling alone, my primary goal was to reside in a “safe” environment. Not only was Coral Cottage a safe place for my month long stay, it exceeded my expectations. The cottage was exactly as it was described and pictured on VRBO. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and manicured. The cottage is fully furnished and decorated with style, complete with refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and flat screen TV w/Direct TV and high speed Wi-Fi. Upon my late afternoon arrival I was met by my host (owner), Lilly, whom I found to be very friendly and courteous. Her friendliness was very welcome after a long day of traveling. A courtesy meal of my choice was provided from the local Chinese restaurant. It arrived piping hot by the time I made myself comfortable in my cottage. Lilly is very knowledgeable not only about Corozal Town, but Belize as a whole. It was like having my own personal tour guide. As for Corozal Town, it is quaint, quiet and the townspeople are very friendly. Everything is within walking distance…the bay can be seen from the corner and the breeze can be felt all day long. No car necessary! Nice restaurants can be found in town with a variety of choices on the menu, particularly, Al’s Café. The stores in town provide everything you would need. If not, the border is a short drive away and you can crossover into Chetumal, Mexico. I truly enjoyed my visit to Corozal Town, Belize and my stay at Coral Cottage, in addition to the afternoon walks with Lilly along the bay. I highly recommend Coral Cottage if you want a safe, top-notch place to stay with warm and friendly service. I wanted a place to get away from a cold Canadian winter. I could not have found a better location. My hosts, Lilly and Iain are gracious, helpful and accommodating. They welcomed me to their home with Chinese food upon arrival. Then they personally toured me around the neighbourhood to meet local merchants who would make my stay more enjoyable. They asked their handyman, Enrique, to take me to breakfast at a local restaurant the next morning. They provided me with a booklet explaining local customs and things to know. Both of them are available to make travel arrangements, tours and accommodations or anything else I could wish for. Our trip and rental experience was excellent due to the owners of Coral Cottages Property Lilly and Iain. The pictures and description of this property is very accurate only even better to see on arrival. My husband and I arrived after a long day of traveling to be greeted by the owners Lilly and Iain on their beautiful landscaped grounds and shown our perfectly cleaned and maintained Coral Cottage. We were also provided with a delicious take-out meal by the owners. Lilly and Iain were very helpful answering questions but also providing a note-book in the cottage with listings of medical services, Menzies Transportation, banks, restaurants, bakery and other services. They also were very helpful with planning of sightseeing tours. Lilly and Iain were very respectful of your space and privacy but always there to help. There is a care-taker for the beautiful landscaped grounds along with the care and attention provided by the owners. The flowering shrubs are beautiful. The patio area for guests is very comfortable with nice chairs and cushioned chaise loungers The care-taker provides cleaning services and replacement of bottled water containers by just asking. My husband and I thank Lilly and Iain for the wonderful stay and the experience of traveling to Belize. Coral Cottages is located in walking distance to the center of town with everything at hand. The people are very friendly and helpful and in no time at all knew our names when at farmers market, restaurant or bakery. We would highly recommend Morgan’s Bakery and all restaurants listed in the notebook provided by the owners. We also would recommend seeing the Maya Ruins and take the plane overnight to San Pedro staying at the Banana Beach Hotel. The hotel is reasonable with excellent services on the ocean looking out at the Barrier Reef. Another highlight of our trip was a late afternoon walk along the Corozal Waterfront. The people are friendly along with a beautiful view over the ocean and many families enjoying picnics. Again we would highly recommend Coral Cottages and thank Lilly and Iain for the opportunity to stay at their lovely home grounds as gave us the chance to explore Corozal Belize. We are now back home after our trip to warm sunny Belize adjusting to the cold weather of New England. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to write this review as want you to know it is everything listed and more. Recommended for: Age 55+,  Adventure Seekers,  Tourists without a Car,  Sightseeing.
My Response So glad to know you are back safe in Cape Cod. We agree the Lamanai river trip and the visit over to San Padro island are definitely a must do for visitors. Thank you both for being such good company, we all miss you, even our friendly rottweiler who still sleeps on your balcony at night!

We had a wonderful 1 month stay at Coral Cottage. Our hosts, Lilly and Iain were helpful and answered our questions about the area, dining out and the sightseeing trips we wanted to take. They helped make our arrival smooth with the arrangement of a driver from Chetumal, Mexico through the border to Coral Cottage. Our cottage was clean and well arranged. We were within walking distance of the whole town. Bicycles were also provided to make our exploration easier. We felt very safe in Corozal as we rode all over town. EVERYONE greeted us with smiles and “Hello’s”. Staying in Corozal, we felt that we really got to know the people of Belize. We had a great introduction to Belize. My Response Thank you Vicky and Jim, it was a pleasure for us to host you. What an incredible energy for exploration and food you had, we have actively recommended Morgan’s bakery and our guests are there almost every morning! Our best wishes for your retirement.

I was very nervous about booking a month-long rental in a Country I had never been to over the Internet. This cottage is exactly as described on the listing and I have found the grounds, the staff and the host/hostess to be of the highest standards that I have found in my many travels. I would highly recommend this property. You will not be disappointed. With plane delays in my travel to Corozal Town through the City of Cancun, Mexico, I was delayed in arriving at the ADO bus station in Chetumal until 10:15 pm. Just as was promised, a friendly driver met me at the station and assisted me in passing through Customs on the Mexico/Belize border. I was then driven directly to the Corozal Cottage where I was greeted with warm, smiling faces and a hot meal from the local Chinese restaurant. This has been one of the most enjoyable vacations I have ever had. The property is safe, secure and very welcoming. It is a short walk to the Bay and to the town center. Lilly and her husband Iain make you feel comfortable and relaxed. They are very knowledgeable about the country of Belize and are here to assist you in every way possible. Do not hesitate to book with them! You will not be disappointed. Orchid cottage was given the perfect name by the owners as I quote “The flower symbolism associated with the orchid is love, beauty, refinement, many children, thoughtfulness and mature charm. ” This elegant 1 bedroom property reaches the high standard that its name imply s. The lovely surroundings with your own little beach esque real estate outside your door set in beautiful tropical gardens. The refinement of this property that oozes taste and finesses in design. The thoughtfulness of the owners surpasses anyone’s expectations everything is catered for so you can feel like your at home. If you don’t have it or don’t know where to find something you want the owners will help you no questions asked timelessly to find you a solution. The maturity and charm this property has between its owners and gardens is impossible to replicate. The property gardens and maintenance is lovingly cared for by the super hand man Enrique who will also help you with anything you need to find in this beautiful town. The property is just situated on the very border of the main town section convenience stores and restaurants are minutes away and the sea is barely 5 minutes away. You will not find a better priced, better equipped or more loved property in Corozal. If you want to try out Corozal and get a real feel for the community and what prospects the town has there is only 1 place to stay. I highly recommend this place to others.
